You do not need to copy embed code or member IDs when using the Shopify app — the theme block reads your member ID automatically after Connect.

Step-by-step: new install

1. Install the app

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Apps and install Keep Small Business from the App Store.
  2. Open the app. You land on the app home in Shopify admin.

2. Connect your Keep Small Business account

  1. In the Shopify app, click Connect Keep Small Business account.
  2. Sign in or create an account in the member app (Log in or Sign up in the header).
  3. Confirm linking when prompted. You are returned to the Shopify app.

Use the same email you want for your membership. Each store links to one member account.

3. Choose a plan or start a trial

After Connect, Shopify opens the plan picker (App Pricing). Pick Starter, Growth, or High Traffic — monthly or yearly where offered.

  • Starter and Growth may include a free trial (as shown in Shopify at approval time).
  • Approve the charge in Shopify. You are redirected back into the embedded app.
  • App home should show membership active within a few seconds. If it still says checking your plan, wait briefly — billing sync runs automatically.

You are not sent to our web checkout for App Store installs.

4. Customize your badge

  1. From app home, click Customize badge (opens Business Profile in a new tab).
  2. Enter your business name and other profile details.
  3. Pick badge style and colors. Click Save.

Saving publishes your badge to our CDN. The Shopify app preview updates after save.

5. Install the badge on your storefront

Back in the Shopify app (app home):

  1. Under Badge install, click Add to footer, Add to product page, or Add as section — whichever fits your theme.
  2. Shopify opens the theme editor with the Keep Small Business badge block.
  3. Position the block and click Save in the theme editor.

The badge appears on your live storefront once the theme is published. No manual embed code required when using the app block.

Theme requirements

Online Store 2.0 (recommended). The Keep Small Business Badge app block works on themes that use JSON templates — including Shopify’s free Dawn theme and most current themes in the Theme Store. After you click Add to footer, Add to product page, or Add as section from app home, Shopify opens the theme editor. Add or select the Keep Small Business Badge block (under Apps when adding a block to a section). Use Show badge and Alignment in the block settings. Click Save on the theme to publish.

Footer and product placement. Some themes do not allow app blocks inside the footer group. The Shopify app may show a warning if your theme’s footer cannot accept app blocks. Use Add as section or Add to product page, or drag the block where your theme allows it.

Older or limited themes. If app blocks are not available on your theme, use the embed snippet on app home (Custom Liquid / HTML block): paste the script tag into a section that supports custom code. Style and size still come from your saved Business Profile — you do not need to edit the snippet when you change the badge design.

Theme editor preview. Until your store is connected and you have saved a business name, the block may show placeholder text in the editor. Connect, activate billing, customize, and save — then the live badge loads from our CDN.

Day-to-day management

Badge size and hover text on your storefront follow your saved profile. You do not need to reinstall the theme block after design changes.

Billing: cancel, disconnect, and uninstall

These three actions are different. Pick the one that matches what you want.

Cancel subscription

Where: Shopify app home → Cancel subscription

  • Stops future Shopify charges for Keep Small Business.
  • Your membership and badge stay active through the end of the current billing period or trial (whichever applies).
  • After that date, membership ends and the badge stops displaying on your storefront.

Does not unlink your account or remove the app from Shopify.

Disconnect account

Where: Shopify app home → Disconnect account

  • Unlinks this Shopify store from your Keep Small Business account.
  • Removes the badge from your storefront (CDN config is set inactive).
  • Releases membership entitlements tied to this store link.

Does not cancel Shopify billing. Shopify may keep charging while the app remains installed. To stop charges, cancel the subscription or uninstall the app.

Use disconnect if you connected the wrong account and want to link a different one.

Uninstall the app

Where: Shopify admin → Settings → Apps and sales channels → remove Keep Small Business

  • Removes the app from your store.
  • Releases membership for this store and deactivates the badge on our CDN.
  • Shopify cancels app billing as part of uninstall.

The theme block may remain in your theme, but without a valid member ID or active CDN config the badge should not render for new visitors. If you filled in Member ID override (optional) in the theme editor, clear that field.

Badge still visible after disconnect?

Usually one of these:

  1. Browser or CDN cache — Hard-refresh (Cmd+Shift+R / Ctrl+Shift+R). New visitors typically stop seeing the badge once cache expires.
  2. Theme override — In the theme editor, open the Keep Small Business Badge block and clear Member ID override (optional).
  3. Manual embed elsewhere — Search your theme for our embed script outside the app block and remove it.

This is not waiting for a Shopify trial to end — that only applies when you cancel at period end while the account still exists.

Reinstall or switch accounts

Reinstalling after uninstall: install and open the app again, Connect (same or new account). If Shopify still shows an active plan, billing sync may recognize it. Re-add the badge block in the theme editor if needed.

Switching accounts: Disconnect account first, then Connect Keep Small Business account with the other account.
